As a line-producer and show producer Carmen identifies the news for the day and how to cover it. She creates show concepts, oversees the reporters' contributions, writes breaking news, oversees graphics and  video. Finally, Carmen blends it together for a fast-paced, informative show.  

Shortly after the Berlin Wall fell, Carmen Roberts moved quickly to take a news crew to Eastern Europe to shoot the documentary,
A Brave New World - Business Opportunities and Obstacles in Eastern Europe (PBS). However, to do so she had to raise the money for the project while continuing to produce and report full time. Within a few months, Carmen had raised the necessary funds, assembled a crew and was jetting to Germany. Two weeks of relentless shooting through three former communist countries generated some incredible video and priceless interviews, which she supplemented with historic European video. Less than five months later the documentary hit the air - greeted with accolades from business leaders, teachers, programmers, journalists, and the Tampa Tribune's television critic. 

Anyone who has worked on a limited budget, knows how to dance to many tunes, and so it was with this project. Carmen produced, researched, wrote, hosted, voiced, and edited the documentary. However, she did so with the wonderful support of her executive producer, Richard Delaney; the fantastic video of photojournalist, Eric Jones, and enthusiastic aid of her associate producer, Mary Geraci. 

As line-producer for Suncoast Business Journal, (WEDU-TV) Carmen helped create the concepts for this weekly financial and business news show and brought them to life. That included developing story graphics, scheduling interviews, long-range planning, and coordinating production.  During her five year tenure, her show earned two Emmy nominations and garnered several best business reporting awards.
